I love it when I see an great idea that really looks like it has legs. That is, one that is called for, one that looks like it will really find a niche; a sign of our times. The Sony Walkman was that idea for our time, and perhaps the Internet. The iPod was that idea for the next generation. Everything changed after these things were introduced. The new Jellyfish Wind Appliance appears to be one of those ideas. Its a small wind generator that simply plugs into your wall outlet. While it will not eliminate the need for commercial power, it will reduce the amount you have to buy. Right now the manufacturers are asking $400 for these units, with high hopes that down the road they will be able to sell them in the $199 category. As it stands, it would take you seven years to recoup your investment. Not bad when you consider you could be the first on your block to have one!
